Digital Storytelling

A Digital Story is a way to express a story through technology. This digital story is about the things that are important and special to the children and their families. For this project, I have planned out a mock Digital Storytelling Night to take place at my practicum school. I first created a mock poster to advertise the event. I made sure to have the event name big and brightly colored. I made sure to include the location of the event, the time, what they would need to bring and also that this is an event that will help build an understanding of their community and family. For the distribution of my poster, I would consider printing it out and posting them on the walls and sending them home with the students. I could also share it digitally through email or teachers websites throughout the school.

My lesson plan is a way to organize and plan out the Digital Storytelling Night. The lesson plan allows for a smoother and more organized use of time for each part of the activity. The lesson plan includes the objectives of the activity night, the appropriate standards that the activity meets and a timeline to generally follow to keep things moving nicely.

I had created as an example of a Digital Story much like the ones that families would create together at my Family Digital Storytelling Night. I used the application VoiceThread to create my example. I choose three artifacts/photos that were important to me and left comments/voice-overs to describe each artifact. Once shared with anyone to comment, the VoceThread can then be commented on by others in the form of voice, video, or text.
