About Me
Educational Background
My name is Ashley Findel. I live in Centereach, on Long Island in New York. In 2018 I graduated from SUNY Cortland with my bachelor's degree and NYS certifications in Early Childhood and Childhood Education. Having grown up and always living in the suburbs of central Long Island, Cortland gave me many opportunities to experience education different than what I was always used to in my own education. I developed a new way of looking at teaching. It was more than just educating about subjects, it was deeper.
I transferred to Cortland after finishing my Associate's Degree in Child Studies at SUNY Suffolk. This is where my passion to teach started. Through all of my studies at both institutions, I have developed a passion for helping young children grow and learn. At Cortland, I was an active member of Alpha Sigma Alpha, doing community service to help the Cortland with events such as Safe Halloween where we provided the city's children with a safe and entertaining Halloween experience. I also volunteered at a local child care center and created hand made developmentally appropriate learning games for young children and their families to encourage family engagement.
After graduating I accepted part-time substituting positions in Brentwood Union Free School District and Middle Country Central School District. The latter in which I was also employed as a Teacher Assistant substitute the previous year. In 2019, I accepted a position as a full-time Building Floater (substitute) in Longwood Central School District where I worked closely with the amazing staff, families, and students in an elementary building where I took a long term substitute position as a TA in a 6:1:1 class. In September 2019, I was offered a position in Longwood Middle School in a leave position teaching 6th grade Math, ELA, and Health until May 2020.
Each experience has taught me so much and there is still so much to learn. I am excited to continue to grow with new experiences while giving young minds what they need to grow.
